The intro, I was not overly fond of to be honest. But I really liked what you had around 33 seconds. Your melody and harmony seem to be in different keys though. Which is why I'm thinking you also may have lowered the volume on it because it sounded slightly off. I like the rhythm around 2:10, but it's a little dry. What's important is I can see how the song fits to the story though. The ending is a little abrupt as well.

I'd recommend you focus on how to flow better in to new parts of a song and how to layer with instruments and which instruments are complimentary. We've all been where you are once believe me, you are definitely on the right track though! Keep it up!

PaperMikes responds:

I can certainly see what you mean about the intro. Yeah, I was also a bit unsure as to how high the volume should have been for those, so I left them as is after a while.
I will certainly focus on that! A good flow is something I've had a bit of trouble with when I tried making other songs.
Thanks! I really appreciate the review! ^^

This song has some nice crunch to it. I found it to be a little repetitive though. I realize that is apart of some dubstep, especially in the case of where you reintroduce a portion of a song and build it up. I think in this case you could have still done that but if you modulated up, you'd get a much more fantastic sounding climax and the song would sound less repetitive. At any rate, good job!

ExordiumEDM responds:

Thanks dude! :) Next time, I'll try to not be as repetitive.

I imagine this more as the introduction music to a television show or film. I really liked the intro, I found the percussion a tad overbearing at first but then it fit really well in to the song. I think there was some room for modulation as well. But still a very solid sounding piece, I liked it. Keep it up!

I was going to initially say my only complaint is that you could have modulated the piece more, but then I realized it was a loop. This is definitely perfect N64 music. I really enjoyed the deep brass and the contrast to the wind and string. For what you were trying to accomplish you got it spot on.

Akin to the many N64 stylized music I imagined the brass as leading to something bulky, the string and wind something small, fragile. Like the contrast between Tiny and Chunky Kong.

Keep up he good work!

Thanks for your review, Wingo! :-)

You're completely right! While writing the song I always had all kinds of forest animals in my mind, like squirrels, small birds and raccoons for the first part and clumsy or even lazy animals (like a bear just walking around enjoying his life) for the second part.

About the loop... I couldn't upload the song as a loop because the first 4 (intro-) measures are not supposed to be repeated. Still, I wanted to make sure that people recognize the song undoubtedly as a loop so I looped it myself. Do you think it's necessary to do that or should I just upload songs without repeating them myself?

This is clearly the music Kalimba from Ninja Tuna. One of the free songs given out with copies of windows 7. Please remove this content.

Kill everything that you can kill. The game. Also you wear a leather jacket made from T-Rex and your sunglasses are tinted diamond lenses. Rock on.

Fizzento responds:

This is officially the best audio review I've ever gotten.

I can see what you mean by the maze. The song is mesmerizing. I like the beat and the overall flow of the song and your choice of sounds. Electronic isn't my area of expertise but I know when I hear something I like.

Keep it up!

ShirkMusic responds:

Wow I really appreciate it dude, great thoughtful feedback :) DO you think that 'The Maze' would be well suited to be a game soundtrack?

A wonderfully ambient sound reminiscent of Spore. I like the eeriness to it as well.
I have no objections to this piece so you get 5 stars. Keep up the good work!

From the start I was reminded of Spore, the video game. A very ambient sound. I enjoyed it.
Seems well put together and I really have no objections to it. So 5 stars for you.

Fizzento responds:

Thanks m8

There are awkward pauses at the beginning which put me off. But it cleans up later in the song. I realize this is a drum and bass song but it still feels lacking in substance. Love the actual title. It does more justice than the one you gave it.

Fizzento responds:

I left the pause there to emphasize the beginning as a "buildup" type of thing and make it more clearer that it's an intro. Also, glad you liked the title blurb.
Thanks for an honest review.

I compose music as a hobby and I study math and science. My aspiration musically is to make an orchestral score for a video game, my scholarly aspirations are to develop effective models/algorithms. I am also fond of the wristwatch. Feel free to PM.
