Definitely reminds me of a college/coming of years movie. Always lots of brownie points when you invoke nostalgia in me. I don't hear any flaws in the music that bother me, sounds pretty solid all around. Good job!

I'm assuming the intro is supposed to be a homage to the elder scrolls. I like the second song, so chipper. Very nice brass around 4:50, once again feels like a slight homage to the elder scrolls there again. Very nice video game sounding orchestral music. Now I'm not usually the biggest fan of electronic music in video games, but I can appreciate that this has been well put together and commend you on that. Overall, very solid work well done.

I will be honest, up until someone else pointed me to Morrowind, I had never heard that soundtrack (nor played the game for that matter)!
So I am going to put it down to great minds thinking alike haha

Thanks for your comments, the brief for this soundtrack was to be in the style of 8Bit / Chip Tune - but I wanted a more modern feel to it. I really enjoyed doing the orchestral stuff and am hoping to dig deeper into that facet of sound design - I will hopefully be uploading a more 'Epic' sounding piece onto my soundcloud shortly.

Again thanks for the comments, and keeping me motivated to do more!

I'm not sure what VST you had available but everything sounded great except the percussion. The melody is invoking nostalgia and is certainly making me bias to how much I enjoy this piece. It does get a little repetitive as well. Like I tell many composers, modulate! Awesome work though.

Lethal-Input responds:

Thanks for the feedback! Most of the sounds I either made on Sytrus or 3xOsc (most from following tutorials.) Do you have any good free percussion VST suggestions? Well i'm sure I could have gotten better stuff with some of the default presets, I probably just didn't look hard enough.

I wish it were longer. You could have turned this in to so much more. There is an eerie beauty to this piece and it really captured my attention. Well done.

You've got a great beat in the background. The song starts great too, but it does feel a little dry until about 1:02 when you introduce something slightly different and it does pick up for a bit. I think in this case what you need to pay attention to is your melody. You seem to have a fairly strong grasp on having a decent harmony, but I think you could have easily added one more instrument - a leading part - and it would have really spiced it up. Still a solid work. Keep it up!

The intro, I was not overly fond of to be honest. But I really liked what you had around 33 seconds. Your melody and harmony seem to be in different keys though. Which is why I'm thinking you also may have lowered the volume on it because it sounded slightly off. I like the rhythm around 2:10, but it's a little dry. What's important is I can see how the song fits to the story though. The ending is a little abrupt as well.

I'd recommend you focus on how to flow better in to new parts of a song and how to layer with instruments and which instruments are complimentary. We've all been where you are once believe me, you are definitely on the right track though! Keep it up!

PaperMikes responds:

I can certainly see what you mean about the intro. Yeah, I was also a bit unsure as to how high the volume should have been for those, so I left them as is after a while.
I will certainly focus on that! A good flow is something I've had a bit of trouble with when I tried making other songs.
Thanks! I really appreciate the review! ^^

I compose music as a hobby and I study math and science. My aspiration musically is to make an orchestral score for a video game, my scholarly aspirations are to develop effective models/algorithms. I am also fond of the wristwatch. Feel free to PM.
